for Mac OS X Users
If you have a document to print and you need it ASAP, don't spend precious time opening the application just to send the file to the printer.
In Mac OS X 10.3, you can create desktop printers again...
1) Launch Printer Setup Utility.
2) Choose the printer you'll be using.
3) Click "Create Desktop Printer" from the "Printers" menu.
4) Name the icon and click Save.
Once the icon is created, drag a document to the icon and away it goes. Panther completes the process without opening the application and clicking through a dialog box. (Applications vary and some may still require you to go through the dialog box.)
Don't feel constricted to keeping the icon on your desktop. Move it to your Dock or Finder window sidebar. It's that easy.
